002 [W2] LECTURE & TUT NOTES

STRATEGIES. . .

Week 2 lecture:
> Yasu based the lecture around the 4 themes mentioned in the previous post. This investigation of different strategies enables us to open our minds to new challenges, constantly reaching new heights of reason and productivity.

The following are a few key quotes recorded from the lecture slides:

…   "Vernacular buildings are adapted slowly by hands according to needs."
…   "but what if architecture is altered by machines?"
…   "and what if machines or spaces can be transported?"
…   "what if architects don't rely heavily on tangible materials to construct architectural entity?"
…   "what about users…"

Tutorial Activity:

Brainstorm session: The tutorial session consisted of brain-storming ideas/words in our newly formed groups which relate to each of the corresponding 4 themes.
The tutorial session was broken up into 4 parts with each theme leader having roughly 30 mins per room to discuss any thoughts or concerns with students.

The follow 4 posts will show the results of each theme section brainstorm. . .

001 [W1] INTRODUCTION

THE PLACE TO BE. . .

CAPITheticAL invites responses to many questions, including:
  • Would you build a new capital today or could the Australian Federation be expressed in a different way?
  • Would it be a city in the conventional sense or not? If not, what form might it take?
  • What ideas would drive its design and development?
  • How would 21st century social, political and environmental factors influence the nature of the city?
  • Of what should our national capital consist?
